BAFTA Awards Betting 2008
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) was set up to recognise, encourage and reward excellence in the film and television arts and is considered to be the British equivalent of the Hollywood Oscar ceremony. Cunningly staged in February, a few weeks before the Oscars, the BAFTA ceremony has taken on a considerable significance as an indicator of the likely winners of the American awards. Needless to say, Online Betting enthusiasts have been drawn to speculating on the outcome of the various categories and many online betting sites now cater for this interest.

Bafta Betting Information
The BAFTAs give an award for best British Film but also focus on cinema from all countries and the 2008 shortlist of "American Gangster", "Atonement", "The Lives of Others", "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" certainly reflects this. The Best Director award went to Ethan and Joel Coen for "No Country for Old Men" and the Best Editing award to "The Bourne Ultimatum". There is obviously no "Anti-Hollywood" snobbery and the results show that the Academy is interested only in recognising good films.
The BAFTA television awards take place in April and have become very popular with Awards Betting fans, especially in the area of TV comedy. Ricky Gervais has inevitably dominated recent years with "The Office and "Extras" although Harry Hill took over from him in 2008. "Boy A" dominated in the drama arena and Andrew Garfield won Best Actor. Eileen Atkins took Best Female Actor for "Cranfield" and "Peep Show" won Best Sit-Com. The excellent Gordon Ramsay featured well and "Heroes" won Best International Drama. My only disappointment is that the brilliant Simon Amstell wasn't recognised. He will be.
In sport the Best Sport was the Canadian Grand Prix which is either a reflection of the sporting interests of the Academy members or that all the good stuff is now on Sky! The Academy also hosts an award ceremony for children's films and TV programmes in November and one for new video games at the Roundhouse in October.
