Coca Cola League Football Betting 2008
The great thing about the Coca Cola Championship League, in comparison with the Premier League, is that the three top teams from last year have been promoted and it’s anybody’s guess which teams will grab the top-three promotion spots in the new season. In the Premier League, there’s nowhere for the winners to go and the top four tend to remain the same, year after year. This helps even the Championship’s newly promoted teams in their chances of further advancement and you only have to look at Bristol City in last year’s competition to realise the truth of this. As with any newly promoted team, the primary aim is to stay up but the Robins came close to an elevation to the Premiership at their first attempt.
There are all the betting opportunities of the top league in the Championship and a vast range it is too, with bookies constantly on the lookout for new ideas. Live betting, my own favourite innovation means that you can dive into a game at any point and as many times as you like, depending on how the play goes.
Championship Favourites
Teams, fresh up from League One last season, are doing well this year with Swansea in tenth place and Doncaster in the fourteenth spot. Nottingham Forest have much to do, hovering above the drop zone with just four points from five games. Just down from the Premiership, Birmingham look intent to make an instant return and lie in second place with an impressive 13 points from five games. Wolves sit at the top and finally seem ready to remedy their 2004 demotion from the top flight.
It’s early days yet for Football Betting in this division though, and both Preston and QPR, breathing down the necks of the top two, are looking good to maintain a challenge at the top of the table. Bristol City mean to give it another go this season and are currently lying in the five spot. Perhaps there will be a return to the Premiership for a Sheffield team this year with Wednesday clinging to their place in the playoff zone and United only one place behind them. Blackpool have changed their tune this season after nearly being relegated in the last. They sit mid-table and appear to have steadied the ship.
When a club is relegated from the Premiership they are given ‘parachute payments for the first two seasons after demotion. This is to enable them to meet their ongoing costs such as wages and stadium expenses. Some argue that this gives a relegated side an advantage over other Championship clubs although it is hard to see how these payments could be removed without causing problems. Birmingham, Reading and Derby are in their first year of support while the money runs out for Sheffield United, Charlton and Watford at the end of the season. The pressure is on these clubs to get promotion while they can still fund the top players.
More Choices For a Football Betting Enthusiast
The Championship is sometimes regarded as a less interesting league for the football Betting fan but the football played in this league is far more representative of the English game and can be a lot more physical. It is a highly competitive league and all the more unpredictable and exciting for it.
