Goodwood festival betting is is undoubtedly one of the Horse Racing Betting highlights of the social summer season - famously described by King Edward VII as "a garden party with racing tacked on". The fashion trend is less formal with white linen suits and Panama hats being worn by gentlemen, following the example of King Edward VII who discarded his formal dress for the more informal attire in 1906, and elegant high summer styles worn by the ladies.

History of Goodwood

Racing, and indeed Goodwood Festival Betting,  began here in 1802 when the Duke of Richmond, arranged races on his then estate. The first running of a principal race, the Goodwood Cup, took place a decade later and over subsequent years, several principal races, which today continue to be classic favourites of the Goodwood season, were introduced.

The 2007 Festival Meeting

Tuesday 31st July: The Betfair Cup, one of the country's most valuable and competitive races over seven furlongs.

Wednesday 1st August: The Cantor Spreadfair Sussex Stakes - Goodwood's most prestigious race, attracting some of the best milers from all over Europe.

Thursday 2nd August: Traditionally "Ladies Day", the feature race of the day is the Goodwood Cup. Goodwood's oldest race with some of the fastest horses in training.

Friday 3rd August: The Totesport Mile is the highlight of day four. The Listed Oak Tree Stakes and Group 2 Richmond Stakes add even more quality to an excellent card.

Saturday 4th August: The final day of "Glorious Goodwood" features the Nassau Stakes, one of Goodwood's two Group One spectacles, and the Stewards Cup, one of the most popular betting races of the season.

The five-day "Glorious Goodwood" festival offers exceptional horse racing betting in what can only be described as a perfect English summer garden party. It's definitely the place to be and be seen.
