The IRB Rugby World Cup is the main international event in the Rugby Union betting calendar. With twenty nations taking part and forty eight matches being played, the tournament is, like comparable events in football and cricket, held once every four years, with the next one due in 2007. Although it has only been held since 1987, it is the most prestigious event in Rugby Union, watched last time round by over 3 billion viewers worldwide, who witnessed England beating the host nation Australia to walk away with the Web Ellis Trophy for the first time in the tournament's short history.
2007 World Cup Betting Information
The 2007 Rugby World will be hosted by France. The first match will be held on the 7th of September and the final will be held in St Denis on the 20th December.
So can England repeat their 2003 victory and win the trophy for the second time in a row? Well the bookies don't seem to think so, with most placing England as only fifth favourite. They haven't really found their form since 2005 but did make a good start this year with the Six Nations Tournament.
Current favourites are the mighty New Zealand team, who will want to prove to their loyal All Black fans that they can go all the way and win the title as they did back in 1987. Other favourites following close behind are France, South Africa, and Australia. Online bookmakers are presently offering fixed odds for the the team to win the Web Ellis trophy outright. Short term markets during the event should include match and group markets.
