March 19th, 2009 by Simon

If your an Irish rugby fan then this weekend can’t come quick enough for you. It has been 61 years since the last time Ireland recorded a Grand Slam and this Saturday (21st March) Ireland can eventually lay that ghost to rest … well, that is if they beat Wales on their own patch, never an easy thing to do. The message coming out of the Welsh camp is plain and simple : “We dislike the Irish more than any other 6 Nations team”, a cloaked compliment indeed. Wales just need to beat the Irish by 13 points to retain the 6 Nations Championship. Come Saturday, one of these two teams shall be master of the northern hemisphere rugby nations, whether its the inspirational Irish or the Welsh wizards, will soon enough be revealed.

Old Firm Under the Spotlight

March 17th, 2009 by Paul

On Sunday, just passed, I sat down to watch the CIS Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers, in the hope of witnessing an exciting, bruising encounter for which the Old Firm has become synonymous down through the years. Instead, I was served up a pretty average game disguising itself as an Old Firm Cup Final. There may be many factors as to why the players laboured so hard without much in the way of entertainment … the pitch being the main culprit (it was laid a week previously to the cup final) but in all harshness, it seems that these two warring rivals are simply just bored with playing each other too many times over a season.

The Special One Not Quite So Special Anymore

March 12th, 2009 by Simon

Jose Mourinho, will have slept little last night, he will have tossed and turned under his expensive Italian bedsheets wondering where did he falter down the wrong path. Now, I’m not saying, that choosing to boss Inter Milan is a wrong choice, nothing could be farther from the truth. But you do wonder what type of offer it would take, for Jose to be on the first plane out of Milan.

West Indies v. England A Post Mortem

March 11th, 2009 by Atticus

First thoughts about the West Indies v. England result is a blizzard of memories about confusion over bowlers, moaning about pitch conditions, agonising about batting order and wondering if the IPL distractions would scupper the England ship. Cricket betting fans must be fed-up to the back teeth with this shambles. Immediately prior to a visit from the Australians for the Ashes tour this summer, we are treating a less than strong and confident Australian side to the delights of self-inflicted weaknesses born out of an abject failure to get to grips with the issues that matter and get on with winning for once.

Rafa’s Liverpool Expects Victory

March 10th, 2009 by Paul

I feel for Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez, I really do. It seems he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He has brought some clever and genuine gifted players to Liverpool, has the side playing some decent quality week-in-week-out and pushed them into a top 3 position in the Premiership. Tonight, The Reds face Real Madrid in the 2nd leg of the last 16 in the Champions League. Liverpool have the advantage of an away goal ahead of the tie as they lead 1-0 from the first leg. Yet, he still gets stick!

The Cheltenham Festival

March 9th, 2009 by Atticus

Tomorrow sees the start of the long-awaited Cheltenham Festival and the star of the day in tomorrowÂ’s six exciting races has to be Binocular, running in the Champion Hurdle. Far and away the favourite at 13/8 with the next horse, Celestial Halo, a distant 9/1 shot, Binocular seems, to most horse racing betting fans, the obvious and sensible place to put your money. After all, the horse will be ridden by Tony McCoy, rider of more than 3000 jumps winners, who took Binocular to a spectacular victory in the Boylesport International Hurdle at Ascot.
