Lightning strikes shaved into his head, Phil Taylor showed once again just what a force he is within the World Matchplay championship as he crushed Kevin Painter 13 – 3 in the second round. It seems when it comes to Taylor and winning the World Matchplay crown, lighting does strike more than once as he eyes up his 10th title.
Painter, suprisingly had control early on in the game as he broke Taylor’s throw in the first leg, but that was about it for Painter as Taylor won the next 10 legs convincingly and then played out the remaining games in cruise control.

David Beckham got a sharp response from the LA Galaxy fans on Sunday night and the message was loud and clear, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!” Large sections of the crowd were extremely unhappy by the No.23’s presence and it was reported that the boos were louder than cheers. Okay, I’m aware we are barely halfway through summer, it’s only day 2 of The Ashes series and the English school holidays have yet to take place. But think about it this way, it’s less than 5 weeks to the new 2009 / 10 Premiership season kicks off, and I am buzzing with anticipation of how the new Premiership betting season will shape-up. Birmingham, Wolves and Burnley add some new interest and I wouldn’t be so quick as to write any of them off as relegation fodder (remember, how Hull and Stoke were supposed to join WBA last season and look how that turned out.)
