A massive contingent from Merseyside will head down the M6 on Saturday to watch Liverpool play Everton in FA Cup Semi-Final. It’s bound to be an emotional event but even more so, when you add the extra element that the game will be played on the eve of the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

After many years of them ‘from across the pond‘ borrowing our tv ideas, the pendulum has eventually swung the other way…. BBC’s new Saturday night entertainment show, The Voice, has been a hit, so far. OK, the American version of the show was copied from the country that gave us Big Brother, but we’ll not hold that against the Dutch.

The Voice has trampled all over Britain’s Got Talent in the tv viewing figures, so much so, that Simon Cowell has been hitting the editing room in an attempt to give BGT a fighting chance.

You have to go back almost 80 years, 1934 to be precise, for the last Gold Cup and Grand National double winner. This was the only time in history that both races were won in the same year – the horse to achieve this was called Golden Miller.

Fast forward almost eight decades and there is a real sense, if he gets the green light to race in the 2012 Grand National, Synchronised could become only the 2nd horse in history to claim a Gold Cup and Grand National double.
