Aintree Bowl Betting Preview
The Grade One Aintree Bowl gets the FBO treatment today as we welcome the start of Aintree and ultimately the Grand National betting on Saturday.
Weather conditions have been dry on the lead-up to Aintree, however, expect scattered heavy showers on opening day. The Aintree Bowl also known as the Betfred Bowl Chase is raced over 3 miles & 1 furlong and nineteen fences stand between the Aintree Bowl betting entrants and a winners cheque for £84,405.
Last year’s Aintree Bowl winner, Nacarat runs once again, but the 11yr old has only won once so far this National Hunt season. That was at Kempton, in February, as he won the Racing Plus Chase (3m) after finishing strongly. His form might be improving as we come to the end of the season but poor winter finishes means Nacarat averages 10′s in the betting odds.
The Nicky Henderson trained, Riverside Theatre, 8yr old gelding is the bookies Aintree Bowl betting favourite. Riverside Theatre won the Cheltenham Ryanair Chase (2m 5f) last month as Barry Geraghty staved off the threat from Albertas Run ridden by A P McCoy.
This time around McCoy will ride Burton Port, who challenged well and showed strength to stay touch with the leaders in the Gold Cup (3m 2f 110y) and was outdone for class against Long Run in the Betfair Denman Chase (3m).
One horse, who has had an astounding start to 2012 is Hunt Ball. The Keiran Burke trained 7yr old takes a step up in class to run in the Grade One Aintree Bowl after registering 4 wins out of his last 5 races. He placed 2nd in that blip on an otherwise impressive racing cv.
However, the Aintree Bowl betting fancy at FBO is granted upon Medermit although he’s finished behind Riverside Theatre in the Betfair Ascot Chase (2m 5f 110y) and the Cheltenham Ryanair Chase (2m 5f) according to his trainer Alan King feels the horse has a better chance of crossing that finishing line first over the longer distances.
