Amir Khan v Zab Judah Betting Preview

July 8th, 2011 by Simon

Amir Khan is looking to stretch his unbeaten run to eight fights when he takes on American, Zab Judah on July the 23rd. It’s an intruiging contest that sees both boxers fight for the WBA & IBF light welterweight titles. And despite the bookies having Khan as the pre-fight favourite, most boxing betting fans think this fight is a little more closer to call.

Khan has been in the press claiming that he is only three fights away from Boxing immortality. His impending fight against Judah, a unification bout against Timothy Bradley (WBO & WBC Champion) and finally a chance to fight Floyd Mayweather. It might seem like ‘pie in the sky’ talk to a lot of people including Judah and Bradley but ‘King Khan‘ believes this is his road to destiny. Of course there’s a lot of if’s and but’s in such a statement, especially when every boxing fan is shouting for Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao first and foremost.

With the announcement of Ricky Hatton’s retirment earlier this week and also David Haye’s ‘toeless’ defeat last weekend, British boxing needs something to shout about on the world stage just now. Khan is doing his damndest to step in to the limelight and become that beacon that will light up the way forward.

Yet, there remains a certain IBF light welterweight champion too deal with at the end of the month.

Zab Judah is 9 year’s older than Khan. At 33 years of age, Judah is the current IBF light welterweight champion and has 41 wins out of 49 (28 by KO). He’s an experienced boxer (a former undisputed welterweight champion) whose been in and around the best that the light welterweight division has to offer during the last decade. Zab Judah might have a few years on Khan and his stamina might be questionable in the later rounds but he is a dangerous opponent for Khan to fight.

Much has been written of Judah’s colourful past – his shock loss to Carlos Baldomir on points was quickly followed by his low blow and club to the back of the head against Floyd Mayweather in the 10th round sparked a riot inside the ring. In America this is being billed as the new kid on the block (Khan) versus the rugged vetran (Judah).

There’s certainly a lot to lose for both fighters but there is so much more to win which makes the Khan v Judah fight a spectacle not too miss.
