Cardiff v Liverpool Betting

The first domestic trophy of the 2011/12 season will be contested this Sunday (February the 26th) at Wembley Stadium as Cardiff City versus Liverpool in the Carling League Cup Final. It’s unsurprising to learn that the Premiership side is hot favourites in the Cardiff v Liverpool betting stakes but upsets do happen, just ask any Arsenal fan what happened in last years final (on second thoughts, that might not be such a good idea).

The Reds dominated this trophy during the early eighties but you have to go back to 2005 for their last League Cup Final appearance, and that never ended well as they lost 3-2 to Chelsea. This year they’ve played the majority of their League Cup ties away from home, aside from the two-legged semi-final affair, and it’s this confident away form which has seen the bookies install the Merseyside club as heavily-backed favourites in the Cardiff v Liverpool betting.

Liverpool have knocked out some big Premiership scalps on their travels – Stoke, Chelsea and Man City – difficult grounds that away teams not often escape from with a victory. Kenny Daglish is hopeful he can once again return Liverpool back to winning ways and getting much-needed silverware in the cabinet is a good platform to push on from.

Cardiff City, on the other hand, have been on a bit of a dip in form, since they overcame a gritty Crystal Palace in their own semi-final showdown back in January. 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats in 5 Championship games, proves that the players have Wembley on their minds and this is replicated in their generous odds in the Cardiff v Liverpool betting stakes.

Malky Mackay’s men need a quick turnaround in form if a) they’re going to upset the betting odds and beat Liverpool in the League Cup Final and b) to save their own chances of qualifying for the Premiership in an automatic place.

Liverpool took delight in thwarting Championship side, Brighton’s FA Cup hopes with a 6-1 victory last weekend. Granted the scoreline flattered Liverpool somewhat, given that Brighton scored three own goals but it’s a stinging gesture as to what might be on the cards for Cardiff – if they fail to turn up at Wembley on Sunday!

I really want the Reds to win this. They are the favourits to do so, but nothing is certain. Cardiff will be pulling out all the stops and like all underdogs have nothing to loose. We knoe Liverpool are capable of winning some of the big prem sides but seem a little complacent with the lower teams. I agree the result at Brighton was good, with or without the home goals and let hope this result does not go to their heads. I’ve supported L.F.C. since I was a child and am praying this is the start to seeing them as the team I rememeber they were many years ago. C’mon you REDS
