The 96th annual Tour De France starts this Saturday (4th of July) and the main buzz around this year’s competition is the return of Lance Armstrong (7 times champion) from retirement to compete, once again, in the most gruelling of cycling races. The Tour De France is competed over 22 days and reaches its punishing end in Paris on the 26 of July.

Lance Armstrong Eyes Tour De France 2009 Comeback

On September the 10th, a certain Lance Armstrong rocked the Cycling World when he announced he is coming out of retirement to race in next years (2009) Tour De France and attempt to win the event for an incredible 8th time. I’m pretty sure cycling betting enthusiasts are delighted at this news, as I was. But hold-on there, can this modern day American icon, really expect to do battle with the Alps and his Tour opponents and win? Without the aid of illegal performance enhancing drugs? That’s, what most sports journalists will be writing about. It makes you wonder if this is Armstrong’s final swan song to wipe away all those rumours and doubters over the doping accusations.
