Championship Betting Odds 2009/10

August 4th, 2009 by Simon

With just days to go before the Coca Cola Championship 09/10 season gets underway, we thought for all you football betting enthusiasts that we would run a post here at the Free Bets betting blog on who might be promoted or relegated come next May. Without question, the Championship is THE toughest league in England. Sure, the Premiership has the big 4, the big name players and a very nice TV kitty dividied out to all the competing teams. However, in The Championship, there are about a dozen teams all equipped to win the league and the remaining are not that far off the mark either. The margin between success and failure in The Championship is very tight indeed.

This season sees Newcastle, West Brom plus Middlesbrough drop down from the Premiership and Leicester City, Peterborough United plus Scunthorpe come up from League 1. West Brom and Newcastle are early favourites to win the Championship and head back to the Premiership but I wouldn’t say that’s a sure thing. The Welsh duo of Cardiff and Swansea look as though they could be in the mixx this season alongside Preston and Roy Keane’s Ipswich Town. Rejuvenated Derby County might also be worth a flutter and don’t discount Bristol City or Reading.

I feel the competition might just be too tough for new boys Scunthorpe and have them earmarked for the drop. Other contenders for the drop include Plymouth and Coventry although there is a fine line between about 7 or 8 clubs. Getting an important start off to the season will be vital and points on the table is always a great confidence boost for the long and arduous campaign that the Championship demands.
