End of an Era for Australian Cricket?

Cricket betting fans the world over would be well advised to keep an eye on events in India over the next few weeks when the Australian cricket team take on India in a four match test series starting tomorrow in Bangalore. The Indian cricket team have given the Australians their most challenging moments in the last fifteen years of their domination of international cricket. Now the Australian team, depleted by the retirement last year of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Damien Martyn and Justin Langer and, more recently the team’s most formidable binding influence, Adam Gilchrist, must show that they have met the challenge of compensating for the loss of these household names.

Of course, Ricky Ponting is a legendary captain and there’s none better to blend newcomers with a team that still contains the likes of Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Michael Clarke, Stuart Clarke, Brett Lee and Simon Katich. Some of these old hands are getting on a bit now, however, and are prone to injury and its hard to see where proven replacement will come from.

Newcomers, Peter Siddle, Doug Bollinger, Jason Kresja and Bryce McGain have never been capped and none have experience of Indian touring. Brad Haddin, Chris Rogers, Mitchell Johnson and Cameron White are also still finding their feet and Australia’s much hyped, Jason Kresja, the new Shane Warne, will have much to prove if he wants to strike fear into the formidable Indian batting force.

With Kevin Pietersen more than living up to hope and expectation at the helm of the England team, things bode well for next year’s Ashes when Australia once again have to take on England in their own back yard.
