England vs Australia – The Ashes Decider

August 20th, 2009 by Simon

ashes-2009The fifth and final test of The Ashes gets underway today and with the series tied at 1-1 it doesn’t get anymore tense than this in Ashes cricket. England will be looking for more discipline and commitment than they showed in the last test, when they lost heavily to Australia in Leeds.

They’ll (England) be looking for their big players to be confident in this final test – none-more-so than Andrew Flintoff who’ll be looking for a winning end before he retires from International cricket. However, you can be assured that Australia will not be reading from the same script.

As we are writing this, we have heard that England captain, Andrew Strauss, has won the toss and has decided to bat first. Many Ashes betting old heads will understand this theory of batting first before the ground crumbles in the 3rd & 4th days of the test match. Hopefully, it is a theory that also works in practice for England’s hopes.

Teams

England – Andrew Strauss (capt), Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Jonathan Trott, Matt Prior, Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad, Graham Swann, James Anderson, Steve Harmison.

Australia – Shane Watson, Simon Katich, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Mike Hussey, Marcus North, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus.
