Ferrari Says TaTa To Big Sponsorship

December 18th, 2008 by Simon

In another twist for the motorsport industry this week, Formula One big guns Ferrari have teamed up with Indian car makers, ‘TaTa’, the company who produce the World’s cheapest car. We highlighted last week, Formula One Hits The Skids, the seriousness of the financial market stifling the motorsport industry. No sooner had we published the story that Suzuki and Subaru pulled out of the World Rallying Championships. Now the news stories are that the drivers inflated wages are next in line to be downsized.

No matter how you look at the strange sponsorship deal between Ferrari and Tata, you really can’t see past the irony of the whole situation. Here is a car that costs in the region of £12 million being sponsored by a firm that produces cars which sell for £1,250 new. I’m sure all motor racing betting fans will roll their eyes at the spin coming out of Ferrari at the moment calling this sponsorship deal, ‘Historic’, it is what it is, a headline writers dream.
