Monty Gets The Captains Job

Colin Montgomerie has been called many things during his golfing career, Sourfaced Scotsman being just one of the nicer names he has picked up along his way. Now, ‘Monty’, has been named as the Ryder Cup European Captain, I’m sure the media were silently praying for a ‘personality like Monty’ to fill the role. Fact is that Monty has had bust-ups with just about anyone involved in the sport. But he is passionate about the game and wears his heart on his Pringle sleeve is a positive attribute in my book.

We all know that Monty gets right up the Americans noses and vise versa, where they coined him as ‘Mrs Doubtfire’, so it will be even more enthralling when he goes head-to-head with them at Celtic Manor next autumn.

If Monty can take on the role with a smile rather than a scour, he’ll do well. Faldo’s erratic comradeship with the media backfired during Americas recent Ryder Cup victory at the Valhalla Golf Club. Monty, as all golf betting fans are aware, doesn’t need to muddy the waters with the media any more than they are already.
