Premiership and SPL Super Sunday Betting

May 19th, 2009 by Simon

On Sunday, the English Premiership and the Scottish Premier League (SPL) brings their seasons to a conclusion and a lot of questions will be answered. Two teams out of Sunderland, Hull, Newcastle and Middlesbrough could lose their Premiership status and join West Brom in the Championship next season. While up in Scotland, Rangers and Celtic, go into the last game of the season still fighting to be crowned SPL Champions. It is bound to be a nervy end to the season for all the clubs and their fans involved and for Premiership betting and SPL betting neutrals it makes for a classic last day scenario.

P GD PTS
16 Sunderland 37 -19 36
17 Hull 37 -24 35

18 Newcastle 37 -18 34
19 Middlesbrough 37 -28 32
20 West Brom 37 -31 31

West Ham v Middlesbrough
Aston Villa v Newcastle
Hull v Man Utd
Sunderland v Chelsea

Out of the 4 clubs involved in the relegation scrap, Middlesbrough are the ones who need the most to happen to ensure their survival. They need to beat West Ham away and hope that any two from Newcastle, Hull and Sunderland lose.

Newcastle need to beat Aston Villa away and pray that either Hull or Sunderland slip up and lose their last games. For Hull and Sunderland, they have the power to ensure survival by winning their last home games of the season against Man Unt and Chelsea respectively. The team choice for both Man Unt and Chelsea will be interesting, how many of their big players will be rested will also have an impact on the final Premiership relegation betting odds.

SPL Championship Betting

1 Rangers 37 46 83
2 Celtic 37 47 81

Celtic v Hearts
Dundee Utd v Rangers

Its Helicopter Sunday once again in the SPL as the Old Firm go into the last day each with one hand on the trophy. Rangers, however, have the stronger grip, as their outcome is entirely in their own making – win away at Dundee United and your champions. Still no easy mission as United try to claim that last Europa league spot in memory of their departed Chairman Ediie Thompson.

Celtic have to finish off Hearts at home and hope Rangers either draw or lose to Dundee United. If Rangers draw and Celtic win then both teams will be on 84pts but Celtic will have a better goal difference than their arch rivals and thus be crowned Champions.
