Scottish Premier League Betting 10/11
As well as the bick kick off for Premier league betting happening down south this weekend the Scottish Premier League (SPL) also gets underway. Of course, with a dearth of talent from the SPL signing on for Championship teams during the summer months, one wonders what state the Scottish Premier League betting scene has been left in.
Rangers have been rocked by a financial crisis so gripping it has brought the club to its knees. Such is the cash worries that the blue half of Glasgow have not signed a new player in two seasons. Yet, under the wiseful guide of Walter Smith they have won successive Scottish Premier League Championships.
A hat trick of titles looks doubtful for Smith and Rangers this season as their squad was depleted by the exit of six first team regulars. However, Rangers, still have a strong core of around fourteen players plus an incredible team spirit which they’ll need to defend their SPL title. Staying clear from injuries will be pivotal for Rangers’ Scottish Premier League betting chances.
Celtic, on the other hand, have no financial worries, yet they have failed over the last two seasons to make their spending clout count. A mis-management of funds spent on below-par signings cost Tony Mowbary his job and Celtic the Scottish Premier League title last season. Neil Lennon has now been made the Celt’s manager under a one season contract.
Under Lennon, Celtic, have spent £4 million on Gary Hooper and Daryl Murphy and added another 5 players to their squad. Currently, they are in negotiations to bring Craig Bellamy back to Celtic on loan. Despite the arrival of several new faces, Celtic still crashed out of the Champions League qualifying stage. Most Scottish Premier League betting punters will be looking at Celtic’s defence to see if it is strong enough to wrench the title from Rangers.
It has been over 25 years since a club outside the Old Firm last won the Scottish Premier League title. That honour goes to Aberdeen back in season 1984–85. Most likely challengers will come from Dundee United or Hearts. United have shown good progress over the last few seasons and were rewarded with the Scottish Cup and 3rd place in the Scottish Premier League for their efforts last year. With Rangers fielding a weakened squad and Celtic defensively unsure the timing may be ripe for Hearts this season. Hearts have sharpened up their frontline, with the signings of Kevin Kyle from Kilmarnock and Stephen Elliot from Preston in a bid to find some goals – something they were lacking last season.
