Champion Bumper Betting 2012

The Champion Bumper is the final race on the second day of the Cheltenham festival. It is one of the only flat races at the festival which makes it a unique attraction for punters on the second day that have flocked to see the showpiece Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Trainers often hold back some of their most talented horses for flat racing just to appear in this race. The distance of the race is two miles and 110 yards and the race is held on the old Cheltenham racecourse. Horses aged from four to six-years-old are permitted to take part in this race.

Champion Bumper Betting

Champion Bumper betting is a market which depends on a number of variables which are totally different from the jump races at Cheltenham. To begin with, there are no hurdles or jumps which means there is nothing to slow horses down. The favourites are going to be the animals that can get to the front with a lot of pace and stay there.

Secondly, Champion Bumper betting will favour horses that have shown a good record as having stamina in flat racing. The final part of the course at Cheltenham is uphill which places tremendous strain on the horses at the most important part of the race. Any horse in the running, with reserves left in the tank will stand a great chance of getting over the line first.

Champion Bumper Favourite

The Champion Bumper favourite is a four-year-old German horse called Don Cossack. This horse has only ever raced three times in professional competition which has produced two first place finishes. The history of the Champion Bumper shows that there have been numerous four-year-old winners of the race which tends to suggest that age isn’t a factor.

Un Atout is also ranked as the Champion Bumper favourite in a couple of places on the betting market for this race. Un Atout is a Willie Mullins horse so there is every reason to back the animal regardless of the fact the horse has only ever had one career race and one career win. Mullins is not in the habit of putting below par horses on display during the Cheltenham festival.

Champion Bumper Second Favourite

Population is the Champion Bumper second favourite and could well be the strongest underdog of the race. The odds for Population are lengthy in many places on the market but the JP Ferguson trained horse has a one hundred per cent win rate from two races. The only reason this horse is second favourite seems to be because the animal has a slight over reliance on getting a good start.

Once again there is a joint contender to be the Champion Bumper second favourite in Lucematic. This horse is slightly older than the other leading contenders at six-years-old but the horse has produced a win from one race. The fact the horse is slightly older tends to suggest that the stamina of this horse could be slightly stronger which will prove vital in the closing stages.

Champion Bumper Outsider

Venture Capital could be the best Champion Bumper outsider for a variety of reasons. This horse has raced in just under 20 races which includes numerous races over a similar distance to this one. The horse has shown inconsistency but seems to be worth a solid each way bet.
