English Premiership Rugby Union Betting
The English Premiership is the top tier of Rugby Union in England. It is currently known by the name Aviva Premiership but is perhaps better known by its previous name the Guinness Premiership. English Premiership Rugby Union Betting began in 1996 when rugby Union turned professional in England. The league was then revamped in 2000 when it became the Zurcih Premiership and was the restructured in 2002 and again reshuffled 2005 to get to the format which we now have today.
12 teams now play each other both home and away over the course of an English Premiership Rugby Union Betting season with the top four teams going into a semi-final then final to determine the champions. The top six finishing teams are entered into the following season’s Heineken Cup and the bottom team in the league is relegated.
English Premiership Betting Markets
English PremiershipRugby Union betting has been transformed in recent years by the advent of a huge array of online betting sites, most of which offer prices and a vast range of betting opportunities within the game. It’s no longer just a question of whether or not your team will win. Nowadays you can bet on things such as
- First scoring play
- Number of points scored by team A or B
- Total tries
- Total match points
- Winning margin
- Half time/full time position
The season runs from September to May and consists of 22 matches, each team playing the others twice, both home and away. There are four points awarded for a win, two for a draw and one for a team losing by seven points or less with an extra point for a team scoring four tries or more in a match. When all these matches have been played, the top four teams go into the semi-final knockout phase. Since the playoffs were introduced, only three teams have won both the league title and the final in one year – Sale Sharks in 2005-06 and Leicester in 2000-01 and 2009-10
The team finishing bottom of the table at the end of the season is relegated to National Division One and the champions of Division one are promoted to the Premiership. Unlike the football divisions, however, promotion is not automatic and is subject to the relevant team reaching a minimum performance standard.
