I'll Do Anything Betting 2008
I'll Do Anything is another reality TV show, along the lines of "Any Dream Will Do" and "The X-Factor" where a series of regional auditions are held to pare down the thousands of hopefuls who want to play the characters, Oliver Twist or Nancy, in Cameron Mackintosh's forthcoming renewal of the stage production of the musical 'Oliver'. The new series is already being closely watched by sports betting fans, keen to spot the first contestants to be eliminated from the show.
In the case of the 'Nancys' the girls are whittled down to just over a hundred who are called to London to perform in front of a panel comprising Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, ex-Doctor Who and leading man in many a stage musical, John Barrowman, and the wonderful Denise van Outen, TV presenter, Big Breakfast anchor and leading lady in the London production of 'Chicago'. Girls from different backgrounds and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply.

Those lucky enough to be called back perform two songs including a contemporary pop number and one song chosen from the entire repertoire of the show which they will, by now, have learned. About forty girls then go on to 'Nancy School'. At the school, the girls are rigorously coached in singing, dancing and acting skills and reduced to the few who reveal their commitment and aptitude for the role. They then go on to perform in live shows where they are gradually eliminated by public vote.
Meanwhile about fifty potential 'Olivers', aged between nine and fourteen, are chosen to work with musical theatre experts prior to performing in front of the Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh. The twelve who impress these extremely critical judges then go on to the live shows where, each week they perform as a group and also tackle a musical task. They do not face a public vote but have to continue to impress Lloyd Webber and the panel to progress to the semi-finals.
This show may perhaps have more substance than its pop equivalents. Andrew Lloyd Webber has stated that the show exposes him to a greater range of singers than through conventional means and that he is impressed by what he has found. What?s more, there is the ready made vehicle of the role waiting for the winners and the opportunity to shape an instant career in the genre of the Musical.
More on the Show I'll Do Anything
The show has attracted a lot of interest from online betting fans and offers the opportunity to discover the talent scout within. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a brilliant visionary of the way the musical works and what is required from the performers. It's worth bearing in mind that lots of people can sing but few can win an audience. He will be looking for artists who are as near true to the Dickensian persona as he can find. It is not often spoken, especially in the analysis of the stage musical, but Nancy is Bill Sykes' prostitute. She is Charles Dickens' portrayal of a woman with a heart of gold that has strayed so far from the path of good that there is no return. She is a tragic figure who commands, simultaneously, the respect and the complete and heartfelt sympathy of the audience.
Oliver is another tragic figure. Despite his leading role he does anything but lead. Coming from a harsh and uncaring background he is compliant and eager to please. A provincial waif, he is unprepared for his experiences in London and thus the easy prey of evil circumstance. He has little to say for himself and tends to speak in clichés. He is the prize for which opposing forces in the story compete. He too wins the sympathy of the audience through his vulnerability and unrealised charm and these will be the qualities sought by the panel on this show. Or, at least, they will be by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
