Master Minded Racehorse Profile

Master Minded is one of twenty nine horses entered for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival this coming March. Horse racing betting enthusiasts have observed his domination of the two-mile chase landscape for some time now and he has been deemed the highest rated chaser, at 186, by Phil Smith, the British Horse Racing Authorities’ head of handicapping. In turn, this has encouraged online betting sites to give Master Minded the shortest Cheltenham odds, at 2/5, since the much-loved and revered Arkle, 1/10 in the Cheltenham Gold Cup over forty years ago. Winner of the race last year, Master Minded looks set to repeat his sterling performance after producing an impressive16-length win in the Victor Chandler Steeple Chase race at Ascot earlier this month.

Master Minded A Hot Favourite

Paul Nicholls, trainer of Master Minded, says the horse’s next outing will be at Newbury’s Game Spirit Chase in February and a strong performance will almost certainly bring his Champion Chase price in even further. Unless another strong challenger makes an appearance his price could come in at as low as 1/4 according to Simon Clare at Coral. Jockey, Ruby Walsh could not be more fulsome in his praise of the horse ‘Kauto Star, Denman and Papillon are all amazing horses on their day but Master Minded is amazing every time I ride him. I thought it was too good to be true when he won the Champion Chase by 19 lengths but it was true. He's in his own bracket. Moscow Flyer was a good horse but I wouldn't mind taking him on with Master Minded.

Teamed-up with stable jockey, Ruby Walsh, the approachable Paul Nicholls is a friendly but formidable trainer with such horses as Kauto Star, Denman, Azertyuiop and now Master Minded to his credit. In the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Nicholls achieved the remarkable feat of having saddled the first three horses past the post. It seems there is no limit to the winners he can produce and Master Minded, still only a six-year-old, has much to gain in experience and will be around for a long time to come. His speed alone is enough to take care of the opposition but when you add his flawless jumping to the equation, it’s difficult to see where any future challengers will come from.
