Midnight Chase Profile

Under rated horses in the Grand National are often the most popular with punters because they present the best chance of a big return. Midnight Chase is one of the under rated horses in the Grand National this year.

Midnight Chase is a nine-year-old Bay Gelding with a much more solid record than some horses priced shorter for the race. Midnight Chase has produced some impressive results for trainer Neil Mulholland.

Debut of Midnight Chase

The debut of Midnight Chase came over 16 furlongs at Perth at the end of April 2007. Midnight Chase was held up before sprinting on to a three length win in a field of 12 runners.

The manner of the debut of Midnight Chase was very impressive and one of the reasons Mulholland took control of the horse quickly. Mulholland spent a lot of time working with the horse and entered the Bay Gelding in a 20 furlong contest in May the following year.

The result for the race following the debut of Midnight Chase was not as impressive but it was clear the horse had potential to do well over jumps.

Midnight Chase and Neil Mulholland

Midnight Chase and Neil Mulholland have been working together over the last three years. The horse has run in 20 races for Mulholland which have produced ten wins, two second place and three third places. There have only been five races in the career of this horse with finishes lower than third.

Midnight Chase and Neil Mulholland have enjoyed some extremely successful periods. There have been two patches where the horse has won four races back-to-back. The first period was between December 2008 and February 2009 and the second was between May and December 2010.

Positives of Midnight Chase

There are many positives of Midnight Chase which have been shown on a consistent basis. One of the biggest positives of Midnight Chase is the ability of this animal to win from a variety of positions behind the leading horses.

Speed and stamina are two positives of Midnight Chase. These allow the horse to stay in contention with the front runners without having to exert any massive physical effort.

Form of Midnight Chase

The form of Midnight Chase is superb and would justify a much shorter price for the horse in the 2011 Grand National. The form of Midnight Chase is so good that the horse has not finished any lower than fifth in a race over the last 13 races.

Fourth was the worst result for the horse out of all races in 2010 and Midnight Chase put in a good performance in the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. This is the only race for the horse this year which produced a fifth place.

The style of Midnight Chase seems to have settled into a horse that likes to be in the front leading pack. However, Midnight Chase is good enough to come from the middle as the recent form of Midnight Chase suggests.
