The NFL betting season
The NFL consists of thirty-two teams from American cities and regions. These are divided into two conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference is further divided in four divisions, North, South, East and West, each containing four teams. The whole season is played over seventeen weeks during which time each team play sixteen games and gets to have one week off. The matches consist of six games against each team’s divisional rivals as well as various inter-division and inter-conference encounters.
This phase of the season ends in early January when six teams from each conference begin the NFL playoffs. The teams playing in this event are the winners of each of the four divisions of the NFC and he AFC plus the two best runners-up from each conference. This is a knock-out tournament leading up to Superbowl XLIII which takes place on Feb 1st, 2009, at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. In the playoffs, the teams are seeded and the top two seeds from each conference are excused the first round, dubbed ‘The Wild Card’ round. From the second round on it’s a straight ahead battle for supremacy and a huge payoff by reaching the final at the Superbowl.
