Premier League Darts Betting 2010

James Wade will defend his Premier League darts crown against one of the strongest fields we have ever seen. The top six who qualify automatically through their PDC rankings in the order of merit are joined by the 2010 PDC World Championship runner-up and one of the best power scorers in the game. That means that Wade must see off Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld , Terry Jenkins, Mervyn King, Ronnie Baxter, Simon Whitlock and Adrian Lewis if he is to retain his title.

King and Taylor top group

19/02/2010

Phil Taylor had to come from four legs down to beat Ronnie Baxter in the second week of Premier League action whilst Mervyn King maintained the league’s only other 100% record with victory over James Wade. Adrian Lewis got the night off to a blistering start by taking a 6-0 lead in under 15 minutes which meant that the game was effectively over as a contest before the first break in play, opponent Raymond van Barneveld managed to avoid the dreaded whitewash by taking the seventh leg but eventually went down as an 8-3 loser. Lewis’s six 180’s and 105 average were the best figures on a night when he showed that he can beat the best when on top of his game.

Lewis is 5/6 to beat Terry Jenkins in week three, Taylor is 4/11 to beat the pointless defending champion Wade, whilst Barney and Simon Whitlock cannot be split by the bookmakers and are both 13/10 shots in their Premier League Darts Betting 2010 books. Joint-leader King is an 8/15 shot to beat Baxter and take an, at least temporary, lead at the top of the Premier League of Darts table.

Taylor silences doubters

12/02/2010

Phil Taylor has once again silenced his doubters in emphatic fashion by blowing away the attentions of Simon Whitlock in the first round of the Premier League. There were many who thought that the Aussie would beat Taylor after The Power was beaten at the recent Players Championship finals and subsequently took to his sick bed with a bout of the flu, but after a nip and tuck opening six legs Taylor went on to show why he is the world’s greatest and won comfortably. Ronnie Baxter and Terry Jenkins started the night off with a draw which was followed by Mervyn King beating Adrian Lewis to gain maximum points. And then Raymond van Barneveld swept aside James Wade before Taylor wrapped up proceedings.

After just one week the Premier League Darts betting 2010 is relatively unchanged with Phil Taylor remaining the resounding favourite at 4/11. Whilst Whitlock will need to acclimatise to the Premier League quickly if he is to justify faith put in him at 16/1.

Outright winners betting

It goes without saying that the 15 times World Champion, Phil Taylor, is the bookmaker’s favourite but with a biggest price of 2/5 you’re not going to get rich by starting your Premier League darts betting 2010 by backing ‘The Power’. Wade is the second favourite at 9/1 with van Barneveld available at 11/1, however, it is the man that they call ‘The Wizard’ who must command the most respect. Whitlock was relentless in his recent run to the final of the 2010 PDC World Championships final and actually beat Wade, Barneveld and Jenkins en route with some ruthless checkouts and unrivalled power scoring. He gave Taylor a run for his money in that final and could go one better in a format that should suit his game; at 16/1 he looks the stand out player for your Premier League darts betting 2010.

To finish bottom of the Premier League table

Most bookmakers are offering Premier League darts betting 2010 on who will finish bottom of the league table and Baxter at 6/4 is the favourite in this market. Perhaps that is no surprise given his status within the game of darts but I think there is some good value in looking elsewhere here, specifically Mervyn King. He had a poor world championship at Alexandra Palace this year and exited the tournament in the second round despite being the number five seed for the tournament, it was the worst performance of any of the Premier League 2010 competitors and backing him to finish bottom at 6/1 could be a shrewd move.

2010 promises to offer one of the best Premier League’s that we have ever seen with a total prize pool of £400,000 up for grabs, buckle up darts betting fans this could be a cracker.
