Where Has The British Athletic Talent Run Off To

July 29th, 2008 by FreeBetsmaster

If there was one thing down the years that we British have been good at it its running. We have produced some wonderful track and field stars from Seb Coe to Linford Christie and a whole host of others in-between to come back home with Olympic medals. Today, however, I’m struggling to recognise our athletic talent never mind pin any hope on Olympic Gold.

Where has it all went wrong?

They can’t turn around and blame facilities, lack of funding, motivation (we have the Olympics in london in 4 years time). So, what is it then? Why has the talent dried up for this Olympics in Bejing?

Dominance from the United States and Caribbean countries in the sprint section and African in the stamina length running events now looks certain at these games. Team GB’s only real hope lies with 34 year old, Paula Radcliffe, who is struggling to cope with fitness.

It might be best if we turn a blind eye to our athletic betting hopes and look elsewhere to some other sports for our medal fix! Cycling and rowing seem our best bet. Some say we are in a transitional period with our athletics. We’ll if that is the case then let’s hope it doesn’t last too long with London Olympics 2012 not very far off.
