Eurovision Song Contest Sat 24 May 2008
The Eurovision Song Contest returns to our screens on Saturday night and Eurovision betting fans face an unusually complex task in deciding the likely winner. Accusations of ‘bloc’ conspiracies abound with various country groupings allegedly trading votes to climb to the top of the pile. Let’s face it though, the voting system has always been wayward and international taste varies so much it’s near impossible to foretell.
Having said that, Ladbrokes are tipping Russian entrant, Dima Bilan, to claim the top accolade at the Belgrade arena in what will be the European Union’s biggest ever TV show. Bilan came second to the memorable Finnish heavy metallers who amazingly won everyone over in 2006. On Tuesday, in the first semi-final, Bilan beat off his main rival, a singing turkey, to reach the final with his song ‘Believe’.
The contest has suffered much derision in recent years but, taken for what it is (a surreal kind of international musical circus) there is something about it that has attracted ever-increasing numbers of fans over the years. The United Kingdom and Terry Wogan in particular, have been criticised by the organisers for not giving the show due respect and this may therefore be Terry’s last year. I believe Terry is the one thing that has kept British interest on board and losing him could possibly ring the death knell of our involvement.
Our contribution tonight has been described as our worst ever offering and online betting fans will doubtless steer well clear. Far better to get into the live betting on the night where the chances of seeing where the voting is going are much greater.

The best Girl Band ever? The spice girls announced that they are getting back together to do a world tour in December of this year and the following January of 2008 . This will liven up the music betting scene again with all sorts of bet options but the main one will undoubtedly be on them achieving another number 1.
There isn’t a mention of a forthcoming new single at the moment but you can bet that this will be on the cards. There was a hinted new album to be released followed by the concert tour when they will perform all the hits from their years together.
Little’uns in tow.
Life will be a little different this time around as the girls take their offspring with them and have even announced that a crèche will also be taken along to keep the mini-spices occupied.
What may also be a surprise is that all five spice Girls would be involved, having put there earlier differences behind them. This would be a real crowd puller and interest in the new look middle-aged girlie rockers will be very high. They’ll attract a new army of fans in their multi-millions as well as stirring their die-hard army from the first time around.
I look forward to seeing them, they’re a nice bunch of people.

Here at Free Betting Online, we aim to bring you even the less popular events as betting opportunities. Surprisingly, Eurovision Song Contest betting doesn’t seem to attract as much interest for the betting fraternity as sports betting events, say.
The money just doesn’t seem to be there through the bookies to make it a sure bet to make a good return. One can only guess that the contest is more a family occasion. It’s always fun to watch but this year should be especially interesting with Justin Hawkins of the darkness entering the fray. He’s a superb entertainer and could eventually be put on a pedestal up there with the likes of Freddie Mercury in terms of his stage presence and on-stage antics.
Coupled with this though, Justin seems to be a genuinely nice guy and this endears him a lot to the general public and this is a very powerful trait for a person going into such a competition.Betting will soon start to get under way when all countries have submitted their contestants and the online bookmakers can start to display their odds.As always, we at Free Betting Online will be monitoring things as the competition gets closer so keep an eye on us!
