World Hurdle Betting 2012

The World Hurdle is the feature race of day three of the Cheltenham festival. The race is popular with the punters and jockeys alike because it's a true test of skill as the horses race over three miles with 12 big fences between the start and the finish line. The World Hurdle is one of the leading jump races in National Hunt racing.

The three mile distance ensures that only the best horses with the best stamina take part in the race. The race has a prize purse of roughly a quarter of a million pounds which regularly sees some of the best trainers in National Hunt racing holding back their best horses for this contest in the middle of the afternoon on the third day of the festival.

The World Hurdle

The World Hurdle is a brutal race and it is classed as the leading long distance hurdle race on the National Hunt calendar. Horses of four-years-old and up can enter the race although it's traditionally the older horses that have been more successful in the race because they are more physically developed, stronger and have better stamina. In actual fact there has never been a four-year-old winner of this race.

The World Hurdle is one of the busiest races for betting out of the whole festival. The reason for this is that the race falls on the third day and punters are running out of time to make back on their losses. Some betting customers also want to build up their account balances before Gold Cup day which traditionally closes the festival each year.

World Hurdle Betting

World Hurdle betting is centred on a horse that has won this race back-to-back for three years running; Big Bucks in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Big Bucks is one of those horses that only comes around once in a generation. The horse has a truly staggering career record which has seen 15 wins produced from a total of 19 races.

Oscar Whiskey is another horse that is featuring well in World Hurdle betting. The market doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind on this horse with the price varying from one bookie to the next. Clever punters will look at the form and stats and notice that Oscar Whiskey doesn't actually have too different a record from Big Bucks. Oscar Whiskey has won seven times from nine starts.

World Hurdle Outsiders

There are a number of horses that can be considered World Hurdle outsiders and they could all go shorter in price as the race approaches if the money in the market goes towards them. Bobs Worth is one of the best World Hurdle outsiders. Once again this is a horse with a staggering record of five wins and one second place from six races. The volume of races is the only thing holding this horse back from being a favourite.

Dynaste is one of the younger World Hurdle outsiders at an age of only five-years-old. Dynaste has only raced four times in professional competition with the results a mixed bag; one win, one second place finish and a sixth place finish in the first Grade 1 trip this horse ever raced in.
